Welcome back my artsy buddies,
This one’s a long one, so strap in folks.
If you're tired of the standard things in your room; standard phone case, childhood doona which you've outgrown, or you're bored of the plain text books which you lug to school every day, then I've got some funky ideas which might give you some fun inspiration.
Idea No. 1: Themed room.
If everything in your room is a random assortment of dust-collectors and childhood toys, and you think it's time to spice things up, then here's a five stepped plan for getting your room from drab to fab!
Step 1: Culling the nest. I know people like me who are not diagnosed hoarders but like to hang on to random items, saying that we’ll “use it later”. I’m sorry but nope, get it outta here, give it to someone else; dump it, throw it or donate it. This new room is a new you.
Step 2: Choose your color theme, ladies’ cream, pink and rose gold does wonders together. If you don’t want so much of a color theme you can always go for just straight up theme. For example music can be old vinyl, available at your local music/op shop, some CDs, a radio or speakers for your phone, and some mirrors couldn’t hurt.
Step 3: Plan what you want and where, before you proceed to the next step you need to make a list and have a general idea of what you want in your new space. If you want a new bed frame, or a dedicated desk area, if you want a new wardrobe space, or some new lighting. If you have a plan, if reduces allot of stress.
Step 4: SHOPPING! I know what my fellow socially awkward humans are thinking. “Eeww other people” Which… mood, but if you want your habitat to be on fleek, you’re going to need to leave it. Maybe after this pandemic though. Anyway you can get some cutesy deco stuff at Kmart; including but not limited to fairy-lights, fluffy cushions, chalk signs, fake plants in case you can’t keep real ones alive, photo frames and more. No I am not sponsored by Kmart; I just want to marry the store.
Step 5: Avengers Assemble! Okay it sounded way better in my head, but you get the gist. Time to put your ideas into motion. Bring home your spoils and arrange your new room. bada bing, bada boom you now have a new room.
Idea No. 2: Wardrobe Upgrade
If you have a whole bunch of clothes which you have collected over the years, well it’s time to cull and upgrade! Give yourself a treat.
Step 1: Cull your old items. If something doesn’t fit (though you’re secretly hoping it someday will) or something just doesn’t quite tickle your fancy, scrap it. Go through all your clothes, coats, undergarments, socks, tops, pants all of it.
Step 2: Find your style. Everyone has a style, it doesn’t have to be something people label you as, find your own. Some styles could be the ‘random assortment’ pretty much anything on the shelves which calls out to you, you could try out the e-boy/girl style, the goth style, the nerdy style, the granny style… anything under the sun. Personally I’m more of a neutral colors kind of girl, I wear allot of grays and blacks, though I love a good red shirt or a yellow. Though black is pretty good.
Step 3: Shopping… Kmart, Big W, Target, Ice Design, hit the shops (Shops being plural, don’t put all your eggs in one basket). There are allot of different shops out there with a variety of different garments. You may want to wait until after the pandemic because then you can try on all the clothes then. Another thing is bring a friend or shopping buddy who will push you to try on clothes and vice versa for them. Shopping with a bestie is super fun, because they give you the confidence and company which can make shopping fun.
Idea No. 3: DIY phone case.
I did this quite recently but if you buy a clear phone case online then this gives you a whole avenue of artistic creativity. You cut put a photo behind the case and then you have people or memes to look at. Another thing you could do with the clear phone case is paint it, some people on tik tok will undoubtedly be able to show you.
Idea No. 4: Inspiration board.
If you ever need inspiration or something to remind you of your goals this is a brilliant idea (in my opinion). If you buy a cork board and maybe some paint, the paint is optional but you could do a zigzag background pattern on the cork board and pin up your dreams, goals, reminders and inspirations for whenever you need to see them. I did this, but instead of inspiration I did a to do list, mainly because I’m a forgetful person.
Sorry for the long list, but these are a couple of ideas which could chase away some quarantine boredom, or if you just fancy a change then hopefully this has been helpful.
If you have any ideas or if I’ve sparked your inner re-decorator then send me a message, I’d love to hear from you.
Stay weird folks,
The Shadow Girl, Fading Out xx
