Books vs. Movies

Morning Muggles, Just a heads up there are some spoilers  for Harry Potter, so yeah... I think we can all agree that in most cases books are better than their movies, like the Vampire Academy series, which has been compressed into one tiny movie... but is it just me or is Danila Kozlovsky the perfect Dimitri? Anyway there are other book series that have been poorly copied into movies, like the Mortal Instruments series, I personally watched the tv series first and fell head over heels with it, I would leg it home from school every Wednesday to be home in time to watch it. Now that I've read the books, well I'm starting the series but DAMN the books have so much more detail. There are plenty of other series like Twilight, the Fallen Series, The Hunger Games, not to mention Divergent. There are some movies which I am personally on the fence about, for example Harry Potter. Don't get me wrong, I hate the fact that they completely removed Peeves the Poltergeist, Pettigrew's death, the two-way mirror that Sirius gave Harry... it was brushed over briefly, but the significance was never imprinted into the movie-viewers properly. Not to mention the Marauders, was it even mentioned in the movies who the Marauders were? Some other things removed from the movies which deserve a mention are; the plot with Marietta Edgecombe, there's a whole story behind the sneak in Order of the Phoenix that Warner Brothers completely cut out, giving poor Cho the blame more than the books did. There's also the Triwizard winnings, that moment when Harry spoke with Cedric's parents... so sad and moving. Also the Society of Protection for Elfish Welfare... Come on, Ron taking the mickey out of Hermione for calling it S.P.E.W. who doesn't want to witness that. And Winky, poor old drunk-on-butterbeer Winky, she never made it to the screen. Anyway, what I was saying before that tsunami of randomness hit is that there's some good parts about having movies, even if key parts of the story are missing. With Harry Potter for example, the fact that their is a wizarding world for people to see, gives a whole other immersion into the world. While the books are unforgettable, the movies draw in all our Netflix-binging buddies into the franchise. (I won't mention how Netflix removed the series from their site.) What do you think? Do you have a favourite book series that the movies have tarnished, or maybe the movies improved them, feel free to send me an e-mail with your opinion. I'd love to hear from you. Keep waiting for you Hogwarts letters folks, McGonagall will send them sometime... Don't judge me I can dream. The Shadow Girl, Fading Out xx
