Hello my melodically minded peoples,
With modern day technologies, such as radios and phones. Music can be an almost constant part of our lives.
When listening to certain songs you may recall memories which are associated with them. The song of your first dance, the song which you practiced for a good three months for a handful of parents in grade six. Or something you just associate with an emotion. Come on I can’t be the only one with a sad-moods playlist.
Anyway, back on topic, these recollection of memories isn’t just some random thing. There’s been plenty of studies about the recollections which come with songs and sounds. This is called Music Memory.
Much like the other senses, hearing is an important part of some people’s day to day activities. And in hypothetical situations where they would have to give up one of their senses, I assume most people would be rather unwilling to live without either sight or sound, seeing as to most people they are considered the main senses. I personally don’t know how I’d function without my hearing or sight. Though I suppose I would have to adapt.
Music has been proven to be a major stimulus in the neurological department. There have been cases where music can help rebuild neurological pathways, and there’s got to be some reason why when struggling with anxiety music is a grounding mechanism.
There has been a study on people with Alzheimer’s, where patients are ‘unresponsive’. But after playing their favourite song, they can be seen to have their eyes light up. They may also sing along to the music. Apparently they are also responsive for up to ten minuets after the music has played. (Kudos to the University of Central Florida: Your brain on music)
Whenever I personally mention to someone how music has changed my life, we normally end up in very in-depth conversations about how much music heals people, because let’s face it, it does. There’s all kind of different therapies around music, like music therapy which focuses on using music to heal people both physically and emotionally through them either listening to music, singing along to it, meditating or even playing an instrument. you can read more about music therapy on www.healthline.com.
If you have any experiences where you or someone you know has been touched by the magic of music, send me a message, I’d love to hear from you.
Also as a side note to adolescents; for the love of all that is good and functioning in my body. Please don’t take baths in deodorant. You need two sprays max. and the time for those should be just a quick press. My lungs are begging you to please learn this.
Anyway that’s all for now folks sorry for this short section.
Stay foxy,
The Shadow Girl, Fading Out xx
